NAUTICED SCHOOL (SAIL & POWER)
Latitude Sailing is a NauticEd School for both Sail and Power. NauticEd was founded in 2008 by Grant Headifen who recognized a need for modernizing sailing education. NauticEd was designed to be a 21st century, internet based system for sailing and boating education. Their mission was founded to create safer and more competent sailors by focusing on a "competence-first" approach.
Focusing on 'KNOWLEDGE' + 'SKILLS' + 'EXPERIENCE' allows NauticEd students to be recognized worldwide. Students begin their 'knowledge' development through over 25 state-of-the-art online courses before completing the 'skills' component with a NauticEd accredited sailing school, like Latitude Sailing. When competence is assessed as well as providing proof of experience, individuals are able to demonstrate to charter companies and others their competence.
NauticEd is the only sailing education body recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard and NASBLA that meets stringent American National Standards.
If you have not completed your PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) certification which is required in Canada to operate any powered vessel, you can complete that training online through CanBoat.

ISPA INSTRUCTOR TRAINING CENTRE (SAIL & POWER)
Latitude Sailing is an ISPA Instructor Training Centre for both Sailing and Power. ISPA (International Sail and Power Academy) was established in 1994 in Canada to develop and promote a new pleasure craft training system. Their online training system makes extensive use of video and is designed to provide flexibility for you by allowing you to complete your theoretical training at your own pace BEFORE you join Latitude Sailing for your practical on-the-water training experience.

Which Certification Should You Choose?
The quality of your sailing training is 100% dependent on the Instructor and your on-the-water training. Where the agency comes into play is both BEFORE and AFTER your on-the-water component.
Before your on-the-water component, your certifying agency is important in the scope, quality and cost of your theory of the theory component of your training. All three of the agencies we certify through offer online theory materials. CanBoat provides online options for your PCOC and ROCM course completion and NauticEd has the largest scope and most advanced online training materials in the industry as well as being the most cost effective.
After your on-the-water component, your certifying agency is important in determining the recognition of your credentials. Your CanBoat PCOC and ROCM are recognized in Canada and USA. While ISPA has a strong presence in Japan and Canada, NauticEd has more recognition globally. If you are looking at chartering/sailing in Europe, many countries require a formal sailing licence.
There are two licenses that are recognized for chartering/sailing in European waters. The ICC which cannot be used by any locations/agencies in North America (but there are three schools in North America that can complete the on-the-water work under RYA and the certification is process through the UK. The other alternative is the SLC (sail or power) which is issues by NauticEd and is recognized by all jurisdictions and charter operators.
The skills we cover and techniques do not change from the agency so we will be covering the information on the water regardless of which agency you are completing the certification with, but due to the global recognition, the majority of our clients choose CanBoat and NauticEd.

How far in advance should I book my training dates?
As all of our training is either private or couple/partner training, some of our more popular periods may book up well in advance. As soon as you know when you want to do your training, secure your spot so you are not disappointed.
This also allows you to make your travel plans in advance to take advantage of early discounts if applicable.

What personal equipment do I need to provide?
Each course will have it's own recommended list of equipment that will be shared with you during our initial discussions before you commit to your booking.
Generally, your personal clothing is needed to be provided, we will generally provide the sailing equipment that you will be using during your training.

How do I confirm my training dates?
Your preferred dates can be secured with a 50% deposit for your course. Our full cancellation policy and rescheduling policy will be shared during our preliminary discussion before your booking is secured.

What about dietary needs/restrictions?
Prior to departure, you will work with the Instructor to make a provisioning plan. This is a critical part of sailing and planning your time away as supplies may be limited or non-existent depending on your training location.
Working together you will provision for the course with your Instructor based on a jointly agreed upon menu plan for the duration of the course.
